With 24V and 3.3V isolated outputs, this design was created specifcally to power Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) I/O modules in a factory automation setting. This design was created to comply with IEC 61010-1, which in turn will provide a designer faster time to market with their own design.

The Isolated Loop powered Thermocouple Transmitter reference design is a system solution providing precision K-type thermocouple measurements for 4 to 20-mA isolated current-loop applications. This design is intended as an evaluation module for users to fast prototype and develop end-products for process-control and factory-automation. Potential challenges with thermocouples as a temperature sensor include tiny voltage outputs, low sensitivity and nonlinearity; in addition, because in industrial environments ground potential differences higher than 100V are common, thermocouple and signal conditioning circuitry must be galvanically isolated. Analog input and output modules are a standard component in Programmable Logic Controllera (PLC) or Distributed Control Systems (DCS). More channels per module and slimmer modules bring design challenges to the isolated power supply in those modules. Anyone facing those challenges will benefit from TIDA-00237, as the total design foot print is less than 2.54x2.54mm and less than 5mm height. It uses a fly-buck approach which means no optocoupler feedback with wide input voltage range of 12V-36V. The design provides +/-15V and 5V isolated, low noise outputs optimal for driving a data converter or analog front end.

The TIDA-00400 isolated power supply reference design provides multiple isolated outputs to supply the bias voltage needed in a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) IO module. The TIDA-00666 TI Design enables Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication powered from a 2-wire 4- to 20-mA loop. For industrial process control instruments, analog 4- to 20-mA current loops are commonly used for analog signaling, with 4 mA representing the lowest end of the range and 20 mA the highest. The TIDA-00666 reference design measures humidity and temperature and it is broadcasting the measured values with Bluetooth Low Energy. The TIDA-00666 design is loop powered and the current value on the loop is changed according to the humidity value (0% is 4mA and 100% is 20mA).

Isolated power supply is a main requirement in every industrial application where modules are connected to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Often, for those PLC modules there is only limited spaceavailable, making the inclusion of large isolation transformers more difficult. The TIDA-00688 reference design provides isolated ±15V and 5V outputs in a very thin form factor with only 2.2mm height on each side of the printed circuit board (PCB). This is achieved by integrating the transformer directly into the PCB. Furthermore, the TI Design can be operated off a wide input voltage range of 14V - 36V and is all included in a small 25.4mm * 43.8mm form factor.

This reference design is a solenoid driver that implements additional monitoring control as well as diagnostic features. These features enable for example: lose spring detection, valve aging recognition and dynamic control of solenoid current. This predictive maintenance feature-set helps to decrease or even eliminate factory downtime. Moreover, the control of the solenoid current supports energy saving and increased valve lifetime. The integrated IO-Link interface provides the possibility of communication between Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and actuator to leverage the predictive maintenance feature-set. The switching of the solenoid is realized using the PWM output of the microcontroller (MCU) to drive the current of a FET, which then supplies the solenoid switching current. The current signature is sampled with the on-chip 12-bit ADC and stored in the on-chip FRAM. This reference design implements a moving average calculation and a calculation of extreme values of the current signature curve.

The TIDA-01333 isolated high voltage analog input module reference design has eight channels supporting both, voltage and current measurement. In addition, 4 channels support common-mode voltages up to ±160V. Isolation of +5V line and the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) communication is done in a single chip using the ISOW7841. The design uses ADS8681 which is a 16-bit analog to digital converter (ADC) that can handle input voltages up to ±12.288V. This makes unnecessary any preprocessing of standard input voltages in the industrial space.
